Are you curious about the mental health experiences and needs of historically marginalized graduate and professional students? Look no further than the Engaging the Academy project’s virtual PhotoVoice gallery! This innovative project, led by Dr. Evelyn Vázquez, aims to increase awareness of the unique challenges faced by low-income, first-generation college students in the context of graduate education. The project uses participatory action methods like PhotoVoice to enact institutional change and promote greater social connectedness and emotional well-being.

The virtual gallery features photographs taken for the Social Connectedness project during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ten students self-identified as low-income, first-generation college students and used photography to document their experiences with mental health and emotional well-being. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore the intersection of mental health and graduate education from a new perspective.
