Position Details: 

  • Stipend: $18,000 total for spring semester 
  • Duration: February 15 – July 30, 2025, with potential renewal 
  • Hours: 20-30 hours per week 

Primary Responsibilities: 

Policy Research and Analysis 

  • Conduct research on higher education policy issues affecting UC graduate students 
  • Current mentorship guidelines for each graduate division 
  • Assessment of graduate and professional students’ basic needs prior to expulsion from program 
  • Adoption of AB 2033 and implications for graduate and professional students when it comes to basic needs 
  • Analyze current data on graduate and professional students—look for trends and insights 
  • Develop evidence-based policy recommendations 

Writing and Communication 

  • Draft policy briefs, white papers, and analysis documents 
  • Prepare advocacy materials and presentations 
  • Write regular updates for UCGPC stakeholders 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Develop informational and outreach programming on Zoom or in-person 
  • Engage with graduate student organizations across UC campuses 

Project Management 

  • Lead policy initiatives from conception to implementation 
  • Coordinate policy working groups 
  • Track and report on project outcomes 

Professional Development Opportunities: 

  • Working closely with the executive director of a nonprofit organization 
  • Training in policy analysis and advocacy 
  • Networking with UC leadership and government officials 
  • Hands-on experience in higher education policy 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Current UC graduate student in good standing 
  • Strong research and analytical skills 
  • Project management experience 
  • Excellent writing and communication abilities 
  • Experience in policy analysis or advocacy 
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects 
  • Knowledge of UC system and higher education policy 
  • Experience in government relations or public policy 
  • Data analysis skills
