Ariana Aparicio Aguilar, a first-generation, undocumented Ph.D. candidate in Higher Education Administration and Policy at UC Riverside, participated as a StAR during the July 2024 Regents meeting. Born in Mexico City and immigrating to the U.S. at a young age, her journey was both challenging and rewarding. Overcoming language barriers and cultural adjustments, she thrived academically and professionally.

With a background in student affairs and non-profit organizations, Ariana dedicated her career to supporting marginalized students, including undocumented, first-generation, and low-income students. Her educational journey spanned institutions like SRJC, CSUS, Harvard, and UCR, equipping her with a wealth of experience and knowledge.

As a StAR, Ariana brought her insights to the Regents’ meetings, advocating for policy changes to better support undocumented, first-generation, and low-income students. She addressed student priorities in mentorship, mental health, and housing by reviewing existing services and proposing improvements.

Ariana’s goal was to contribute to positive change for thousands of UC students, ensuring a supportive and inclusive environment for all.
