Brandon Chu Medical Student at UC San Francisco

Future Physician | Public Health Advocate | Leader for Equity

Meet Brandon Chu (he/him/his), a fourth-year medical student at the UCSF School of Medicine and the External Vice President for Professional Students for the 2024–2025 academic year. With a strong foundation in public health and a deep commitment to equity, Brandon brings a unique blend of medical insight and policy advocacy to the UCGPC Board.

A Public Health Perspective in Medicine

Before entering medical school, Brandon earned both his BA and MPH from UC Berkeley, where he developed a passion for community health, prevention, and systems-level solutions. His journey into medicine is driven by a desire to serve under resourced communities and advocate for a healthcare system that prioritizes access, dignity, and justice for all patients.

At UCSF, he combines clinical training with a focus on health equity, ensuring that the next generation of physicians is not only skilled in medicine but also aware of the social and structural forces that shape patient outcomes.

Advocating for Professional Students

As External Vice President for Professional Students, Brandon represents the voices of students in fields like medicine, law, and business across the UC system. He is committed to uplifting the experiences of professional students within UCGPC and ensuring that their unique challenges, ranging from tuition and financial aid to clinical placement and career development are addressed at the systemwide level.

“Professional students are preparing to serve their communities in powerful ways. We deserve policies and resources that reflect the rigor of our training and the importance of our future roles in society.”
Brandon Chu

Through his leadership and advocacy, Brandon is working to make the UC system more equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all graduate and professional students.
