Francesco Dalla Ricca Graduate Researcher at UC San Francisco

Scientist | Policy Advocate | Champion for Accountability

Meet Francesco Dalla Ricca, a second-year graduate researcher at UC San Francisco, where he explores the cutting edge of developmental biology while advocating for a more transparent, student-centered University of California system. Francesco’s work sits at the intersection of science, governance, and public policy, fueled by a belief that research and advocacy go hand in hand.

From Embryo Development to Education Equity

In the lab, Francesco investigates how metabolism and biochemistry influence early embryo development. His research holds promise for advancing fertility treatments and improving reproductive health outcomes for families. His work is made possible through public investment in scientific discovery, and he sees that as a call to action.

Francesco is passionate about ensuring that the UC system continues to support the very students and researchers who drive its breakthroughs.

Bridging the Gap Between Students and Administration

Francesco believes there is a growing disconnect between UC leadership and its student population, particularly in how decisions are made and communicated. He is committed to bridging that divide by advocating for:

  • Greater transparency in university budgeting and governance
  • Accountability from the UC administration
  • Stronger investment in graduate education and student support services

His advocacy is rooted in the idea that meaningful change starts by listening, something he is committed to doing through direct outreach to students across campuses.

“I believe in building a UC system that works for its students, not just around them. By advocating for transparency and accountability, we can make sure that research and education are fully supported at every level.”
Francesco Dalla Ricca

💡 Discoveries like his begin in publicly funded labs, but they grow through bold, student-led advocacy.
