A man in a white dress shirt and black tie is speaking at a podium, gesturing with his hand. A laptop is open on the podium, and a presentation slide is visible on a screen in the background.

I’m Josiah Beharry, your new UCGPC Council Chair, and I’m thrilled to collaborate with you this year. (Fun facts to break the ice: I unwind with reality TV marathons and hone my improv muscles as a stand-up comedian—so expect plenty of energy in our meetings!)

Why I’m Reaching Out

We’re starting strong by crowdsourcing the top issues that matter most to graduate and professional students across the UC system. In previous years we waited until Graduate Summit to gather input; this time, we’re getting ahead of the curve so our upcoming board meeting can set a bold, data-driven agenda.

Your Call to Action

  1. Share the Survey
    • Post the link on your GSA social media channels.
    • Email it to your graduate peers, department listservs, and student orgs.
    • If possible, ask your Graduate Division and Deans to distribute it campus-wide.
  2. Encourage Broad Participation
    • The survey is short—five open slots for students to name their priorities, plus a demographic section so we capture diverse voices and use for research.
  3. Prepare for the July Board Vote
    • We’ll use the responses to select three to four systemwide priorities at our upcoming meeting. The more input we have, the stronger and more representative our platform will be.

Deadline: July 8th, 2025 (so we have time to analyze responses before the meeting)

Thank you in advance for amplifying this effort. By reaching students who may never attend our conferences or summits, we ensure every UC graduate voice has a path to shape policy.

I’m genuinely excited to work alongside you, and I’m always here to brainstorm, strategize, or swap TV recommendations between agenda items. Let’s make this year impactful and unforgettable.

In solidarity and good humor,

Josiah Beharry
