The University of California Graduate and Professional Council (UCGPC) urgently condemns the recent militarization of immigration enforcement actions in Los Angeles and neighboring communities. These escalated tactics have created a climate of fear and distress, especially for immigrant, undocumented, and mixed-status families within our university community.
UCGPC stands in unwavering solidarity with our undocumented and immigrant community members. We are deeply alarmed by the use of military force and heightened enforcement measures that threaten the safety, dignity, and well-being of our students, scholars, and their families. Such actions undermine the core values of our academic community and disrupt the pursuit of education, research, and civic engagement.
We call on university leadership, policymakers, and community partners to join us in supporting all members of our community during this challenging time. UCGPC reaffirms its commitment to:
- Upholding the dignity and rights of all individuals, regardless of citizenship or immigration status
- Protecting the privacy and safety of undocumented and mixed-status families
- Advocating for robust support services, legal resources, and inclusive campus environments
- Opposing any actions that foster fear or target vulnerable communities
Our advocacy is rooted in equity, social justice, and collective responsibility. We urge immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of all UC community members1.
