We’re proud to present Mohit Saraswat as one of our September StARs! A dedicated leader and advocate, Mohit previously served as UCGPC Treasurer and now continues to make an impact as a Bonnie Reiss Fellow. Mohit’s ongoing commitment to student leadership and public service exemplifies the values that drive our community forward.
Read about what he had to say at September’s Regent’s meeting:
“Good morning, Regents. My name is Mohit, and I’m a doctoral researcher at the UC system, proud to serve as the UCGPC student advocate for this meeting. Graduate students from undocumented, and international backgrounds are essential to UC’s teaching and research mission. Yet in these tumultuous times shaped by federal policies, many of us live with deep uncertainty around our ability to work or even complete our degrees. These are challenges we cannot overcome alone. Of course, UC cannot rewrite the immigration laws, but UC can decide whether they stand with the students in crisis or they are left to fend for themselves when the federal policies are changed overnight. At the very least, UC can create policies that allow students to continue their studies when immigration or work status is disrupted, making sure no degree is cut short by forces beyond a student’s control. We want to keep contributing to UC’s excellence. But we need your partnership and leadership to make sure every graduate student has the chance to thrive here. Thank you.”
