Oluwatosin is a Community Medicine physician and a PhD candidate in Public Health at the UC San Diego Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science . His research focuses on evaluating harm reduction services in California, India, and South Africa using predictive modeling methods. He holds a master’s degree in public health (with a concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics) and is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians.

He currently serves as the Vice President (External) for UCSD (2025–26), Chair of the UCGPC Committee for Health (2025–26), Caucus Chair for UCSHIP across the nine participating campuses (2024–26), UCSD Co-Chair for the UCSHIP Committee (SHAC) (2022–26), and the only UC graduate student member of the UC Committee on International Education (UCIE) (2025–26).

Oluwatosin has been at the forefront of advocacy for the needs of graduate students. Funding for graduate research and the protection of international students were his key talking points when he met with federal legislators in May 2025. In September 2025, he reminded the UC Regents that professors and principal investigators cannot conduct all research on their own, emphasizing that graduate researchers are the backbone of the research enterprise and that research funding for graduate students ought not to be reduced ([link]).

He has also been a strong advocate for expanding access to mental health services for graduate students. At the Regents Meeting in November, he stressed that current uncertainties make this time critical for all UC graduate students and underscored the need for expanded mental health support. Additionally, he urged the UC system to restructure student health services to accommodate alternative health insurance plans for students not enrolled in UCSHIP.

Regardless of the issue, Oluwatosin consistently shows up—actively participating in UCGPC council meetings and engaging in high-profile discussions, including those with the UC President.

At the San Diego County level, he has been an energetic advocate, working with the San Diego Office of Economic Development and Government Affairs (EDGA) and the Housing and Community Development Services (HCDS) to promote the inclusion of UCSD graduate students in county housing programs for low-income earners and vulnerable populations.

When not conducting research, Oluwatosin enjoys spending time with his family, participating in church activities, or traveling. Among the top government officials he has met in person are Rep. Juan Vargas  (USA) and Abiy Ahmed, the current Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
