Our featured (immediate past) council member for August is Stephanie Herrera, the outgoing External Vice President of UC Santa Cruz’s Graduate Student Association.

Who is Stephanie?

As a first-generation Latina Ph.D. candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at UC Santa Cruz, Stephanie research interests span robotics, controls, and bio-mechatronics, showcasing her dedication to advancing technology in these fields. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC Irvine, where she laid the foundation for her academic pursuits. Additionally, she is actively involved as a systems engineering contractor for Johnson & Johnson, where she applies her expertise to real-world engineering challenges.

What are her advocacy and interests?

Stephanie is passionate about supporting historically underrepresented groups, including first-generation students, minorities, and student parents, in accessing the resources necessary to successfully complete their degrees.
