This Spring, the University of California Graduate and Professional Council (UCGPC) empowers student voices. We’re sending delegates from all ten UC campuses to meet with state and federal legislators in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. These delegates represent 64,000 graduate and professional students, California’s future doctors, engineers, scientists, and educators.
Our delegates will share their triumphs and challenges as future leaders at a world-class public research university. By sharing their stories, we aim to:
- Raise awareness among legislators about the critical role of graduate and professional education in California’s future.
- Advocate for increased funding for critical areas like campus housing, resources for student parents, diversity initiatives, and mental health support.
- Champion policies that benefit undocumented students and ensure all UC students have their basic needs met.
Investing in our future leaders isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s smart for California and the nation. A well-funded and supported graduate student body translates to groundbreaking research, innovation, and a more robust economy.
Key Issues: Our delegates will focus on securing support for:
- Affordable campus housing
- Robust resources for student parents
- Initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion
- Policies supporting undocumented students
- Programs addressing basic needs and mental health
