AY 2026-2027 Advocacy Priorities

In consultation with the graduate and professional student community, UCGPC has identified five pressing areas that will shape our advocacy this academic year.

Basic Needs

UCGPC commits to advocating and supporting the Basic Needs of Graduate and Professional Students. This includes but is not limited to food insecurity, housing opportunity, and healthcare needs.

Student Research Funding

UCGPC will continue to advocate and fight against the cut of research and student funds of all Graduate and Professional Students both on the governmental front and in campus-specific issues. Following a continual attack on federal research grants, UCGPC will work alongside our partners to request further answers from the federal and state legislatures. UCGPC will also continue to advocate for programs that make higher education more affordable, such as federal loans. On campus-specific issues, UCGPC will work with campus partners to advocate for student funding through TA-ships and research opportunities prioritizing fair working conditions.

Student Safety

UCGPC will advocate for the safety and protection of all Graduate and Professional students on all 10 campuses across California.

AI & Technology

In a time of ever-changing technological advances, UCGPC will strive to provide Graduate and Professional Students an understanding of the University of California’s approach to AI and Technology through advocacy both within the University system as well as the state of California.

International Student Protection

UCGPC will work to support and advocate for the rights of international students through efforts around duration of status, working rights, and student visas.
